Dr. Sigman and our latest guest, Dr. Ran Schwarzkopf, recently met and through this episode, we hear they share a lot of connections. Orthopedics is such a large profession and is a small world with so many common threads.

Dr. Ran Schwarzkopf is an orthopedic surgeon at NYU Langone Health who specializes in hip and knee reconstruction and is a full Professor at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. Interesting episode to hear his upbringing in Israel and his path to becoming an orthopedic surgeon. He gives great advice to all our listeners, including orthopedic surgeons and patients.

Topics include:

-Dr. Schwarzkopf has a dual citizenship in the U.S. and Israel. He decided to become a doctor after his mandatory service in the Israel Army and traveling the world abroad for the year after his service

Key questions asked:

-Should I have an anterior or posterior approach for my hip replacement?

-Where are we at in 2021 on robotic assisted surgery, navigation and patient specific instrumentation?

-What are three things from evidence-based joint replacement that will improve patient outcomes?

Lastly, he gives advice to patients as they are seeking out physicians for joint replacement surgery.
