We really enjoy this guest and couldn’t be happier for the recent acquisition. Kevin Rocco joined us in March, 2021 for one of our PitchPro episodes to pitch Biorez’s BioBrace® Implant technology. Fast forward one year later, CONMED acquired Biorez, Inc. in August on a cash-free, debt-free basis, for cash consideration of $85 million at closing, subject to adjustment, and up to an additional $165 million in growth-based earn-out payments over a four-year period.
Kevin is now the VP of Bioinductive Technologies at ConMed and former CEO of Biorez. Biorez was a medical device start-up based in New Haven, CT and focused on advancing the healing of soft tissue using its proprietary BioBrace Implant technology. The BioBrace Implant is an innovative bioinductive scaffold that is intended to reinforce soft tissue where weakness exists and facilitate healing. BioBrace is cleared for use by the FDA in multiple product sizes.
Topics include:
-We hear all-about Kevin’s love of Connecticut attending University of Connecticut with receiving his Bachelor’s in Biomedical Engineering and then Yale for his MS in Biomedical Engineering.
-Kevin talks about how Biorez was formed when he was 30 years old. He gives us insight into the naming, which Biorez is short for “bioresorbable.” Kevin discusses the challenges and wins creating this start-up including funding, roadblocks and launching a device in the medical world.
